The Latin NYJO ensemble, comprised of emerging professionals aged 18-25, will deliver a high-octane programme that dances through the vibrant beats of Salsa and the intricate rhythms of Afro-Cuban Jazz. These young virtuosos are under the exceptional mentorship of Pablo Barrios, a Venezuelan-born composer and pianist who is turning heads in the jazz world.
Pablo, currently in his second year at the Royal College of Music, has already made an indelible mark on the music scene. As a Henry Wood Scholar studying under the acclaimed Mark-Anthony Turnage, Pablo's compositions have resonated in iconic venues such as Westminster Abbey and St John Smith's Square, not to mention his international acclaim at Malta's Manoel Theatre. His accolades include the Tim Stevenson Award for Composition from the Purcell School, and he has had the honour of having his music celebrated at Commonwealth ceremonies attended by royalty.
NYJO, also known as the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, is dedicated to making jazz and creative music accessible to young musicians and audiences alike. This performance at Alfie's epitomises NYJO's mission to blend the old with the new, creating a dynamic platform where tradition meets innovation.
