Soho on Screen

Festive Television this Christmas: A Spotlight on Soho's Iconic Venues

As the Christmas season rolls in, the streets of Soho are not just lit up with festive lights but also with the glitter of television stars. If you've been to some of our venues across Soho, you might have caught glimpses of these stars on our highlight reel, 'Soho on Screen.'

The Boulevard Jazz Club and The Shed Soho – A Stage for Comedy Royalty

BBC One brought us the delightful Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, featured at our previous venues, The Boulevard Jazz Club and The Shed Soho. Known for their groundbreaking humour and friendship, French & Saunders have been a significant part of the UK's comedy scene for over 40 years. Their show 'Pointed, Bitchy, Bitter' by BBC imagine... not only offered a glimpse into their unique brand of comedy but also revisited their journey from the early days, including a nod to the former site of the Comic Strip Club in Soho.

The Commons Room and The Screening Room – From Football to Comedy

Over on BT Sport, we saw Glenn Hoddle in 'Glenn Hoddle: Extra Time,' a personal journey that intertwined his career, image, and playing style. The Commons Room and The Screening Room also hosted David Baddiel, bringing in a mix of sports and humour. Channel 4's 'Superbrands' featured Gary Lineker in The Screening Room, reminiscing about his iconic Walkers Ads.

The Piano Bar Soho – A Festive Mix of Humour and Music

The Piano Bar Soho was brightened by Jack Whitehall's 'Christmas with My Father', featuring the legendary lyricist Sir Tim Rice. Their special was a blend of music, fun, and celebrity guests, adding a unique festive touch.

A Modern Twist with Aled Jones

In a nod to the modern era, Aled Jones remixed his classic 'Walking in the Air' with Deco, showcasing a blend of traditional and contemporary music styles.

Royal Touch – Sir Tom Jones and Sir Michael Palin

Our venues also had the honour of hosting Sir Tom Jones and Sir Michael Palin for clips related to the King's Coronation, featured in a Coronation review show on BBC Two.

A Celebration of Soho's Vibrant Scene

All these shows, broadcast over the Christmas break in 2023, showcased a mix of new content and repeats. From comedy legends to musical maestros, each show brought a piece of Soho's vibrant and eclectic spirit.
